Simon Ammons, 80, well known Perry Township farmer, died at his home on the Mason-Dixon line, near Pentress, W. Va., at 1:15 a.m. yesterday (Tuesday), Sept. 18, 1945. Mr. Ammons had been in ill health for more than two years.
The last of a family of 14 children, he was a son of David and Mary Pyles Ammons, and was born Feb. 7, 1865, in Perry Township where he spent all his life. Mr. Ammons was a member of the Olive Methodist Church. He married Amy C. Masters, who died in 1943. Mr. Ammons leaves one son, Chauncey D. Ammons, R.D. 1, Mt. Morris; one daughter, Mrs. Dayton Clark, R.D. 1, Mt. Morris, and two grandchildren. Waynesburg Democrat Messenger, September 19, 1945 (Greene County, PA)
| AMMONS - Funeral services for Simon Ammons of Perry Township, who died Tuesday morning, Sept. 18, 1945, will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, with short services at his late home at 1:30 p.m., followed by further services at 2 o'clock in the Olive Methodist Church near Pentress, W. Va. The services will be in charge of Rev. Mr. Vansycle. Burial will be in the Olive Church Cemetery. Friends will be received at the home at any time. Samuel P. Weaver is the funeral director.
