Lydia A. Bonewitz was born Dec. 1, 1847 in Kosciusko County the daughter of James and
Margaret Fordyce and departed this life Dec. 14, 1934 at her home in Mentone where she had
spent most of her life.
Mrs. Bonawitz will be remembered by older citizens as Mrs. Jesse Newman. A son Carl Newman preceeded her in death a number of years ago and a foster daughter Mrs. Lou Rose passed on during the latter part of last summer. She is survived by a daughter Mrs. Beulah Bellings of Rochester, New York, her present husband Mr. John Bonawitz, one sister, Mrs. W. P. Downs of Pierceton, Ind. and one brother William Fordyce. Mrs. Bonawitz was a member of the Mentone M. E. Church. Funeral services were held Monday at the M. E. Church in Mentone with Rev. DeWitt officiating. Burial was made in the Mentone Cemetery. Mrs. Lydia Bonewitz, Sister of Mrs. Downs, Died in Mentone. Mrs. Lydia Bonewitz, 87, passed away at her home in Mentone at 5:55 o'clock Friday evening after an illness of about two years. She was born in Kosciusko county on Dec. 1, 1847, the daughter of Jas. and Margaret Fordyce. Mrs. Bonewitz was a member of the Methodist Church of Mentone. Surviving relatives are one daughter, Mrs. Beulah Billings, of Rochester, New York, a sister, Mrs. W. P. Downs, of Pierecton, and a brother, William Fordyce, residence unknown. The funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Mentone Methodist Church. Rev. Dewitt was in charge, and interment was made in the Mentone Cemetery. Mrs. W. P. Downs, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Fred Pletcher, of Ft. Wayne, and Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Keller, Mrs. Charles Craig, Mrs. Chas. Brower attended the funeral services.
