Died - Saturday, April 3, 1888, at Great Bend, Kas., Belle Connett, wife of Dr. A. H. Connett.
She was attacked on Wednesday, the 31st of March with active congestion of the lungs and
heart. Speedily becoming worse she died on the 3rd inst. She was born in Whiteley Township,
Greene County, Pa. Dec. 25th 1857. She came to Bedford Iowa, when 13 years of age. At the
age of 18 married Dr. A. H. Connett, of that city, and lived there until April, 1885, then
located at Great Bend, Kas. She was the daughter of Benson Fordyce, formerly of Greene
County, Pa., now residing in Bedford, Iowa. At an early age she felt her responsibility
and fled to Christ, the Great Teacher, believing in Him, with all the ocnfidence of a true
Christian mother; but Belle fell in the conflict ere her morning sun had reached its noonday
glory. The loved wife, daughter, sister died when the sun was sinking in the west. Just
in the happiest, sunniest hour of all the voyage, while eager winds are kissing every sail
to dash against the unseen rock, and to an instant hear the billows roar above a sunken ship,
for either in mid sea or 'mong the breakers of the farther shore, death at last must wash
the end of each and all, and every life, no matter if its every hour is rich with love and
every moment jeweled with joy will, at its close become a tragedy as sad and deep and dark
as can be woven of the warp and woof of mystery and death. Life is a narrow vale between
the barren peaks of two eternities. We strive in vain to look beyond the heights. We cry
aloud, and the only answer is the echo of our wailing cry from the voiceless lips of the
unreplying dead there comes no word; but in the night of death hope sees a star and
listening love can hear the rustle of a wing. In the death of this Christian woman we
have the unmistakable evidence of God's power to save his children from the fear of death.
While her redeemed spirit will rest in the bosom of Jesus until the angel of the
resurrection awakes and reclothes the body to join the immortal soul in heaven. She
leaves three bright and interesting girls and many relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
