MERL DOWNS PASSED AWAY IN FORT WAYNE

Former Resident Buried in Hillcrest on Tuesday


Merle Downs, 60, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Downs of Pierceton, passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. Fred Pletcher, 108 Branning Avenue, Fort Wayne, Sunday at about 2:30 a.m. of tuberculosis. He had been in failing health for several months, but only critically forthe past two weeks.

Mr. Downs was taken to the home of his sister in Fort Wayne a few weeks ago, where he could be cared for during his illness. He had lived alone in the Downs home since the passing of his mother about one year ago. His father passed away several years ago.

Mr. Downs was an interior decorator by trade, and a member of the Pierceton Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Pletcher is the only surviving near relative. A sister, Inez Downs Covey, passed away several years ago.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Ashley Funeral Home, with Dr. E.C. Lindsay of Goshen, pastor of the Pierceton Presbyterian Church, officiating, and interrment was in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
