ALVAH A. FORDYCE

Alvah A. Fordyce, 58, well-known Waynesburg restaurant operator, died at 9:20 p.m. yesterday (Wednesday), January 14, 1948, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for nine weeks folloing a cerebral hemorrhage.

A lifelong resident of Greene County, Mr. Fordyce was born March 31, 1889, at Rogersville, a son of the late Albert G. and Malissa Burge Fordyce. He was twice married. His first wife, Myra Metchan Fordyce, died June 13, 1928, and on December 26, 1939, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Ica Lemley Rex, who survives. He also leaves one son, Kenneth Fordyce, of Clairton; two daughters, Jean, wife of Charles Gottschalk, of Washington, Pa., and Alberta, wife of Howard Butcher, of Hundred, W. Va.; three brothers, Jacob G. and Henry L. Fordyce, of Waynesburg, and Otto Fordyce, of Clarksville, and two sisters, Mrs. Henry Hudson and Mrs. George Haines, both of Waynesburg.

Mr. Fordyce was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and attended the First Christian Church of Waynesburg. He was a member of the Waynesburg Lions Club and of the Order of Independent Americans. Mr. Fordyce had operated the East End Restaurant for the past 22 years and was widely known.

FORDYCE - Funeral services for Alvah A. Fordyce, of East High street, Waynesburg, who died Wednesday night, Jan. 14, 1948, will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. at the Garrison Funeral Home, East High street, with the Rev. H. H. Stansbury and Elder Clarence Bigler, of Pittsburgh, in charge. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Rogersville. Friends are being received in the funeral home. J. Ross Garrison, funeral director.
