E. A. Fordyce
Edward Archibald Fordyce, aged 70 years, a former well known school teacher of Springhill Townhsip, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1942, at 7 o'clock p.m. He had been in failing health the past three years, but his death was caused by a stroke which came on suddenly Tuesday evening. Mr. Fordyce was born in Shepherd, Michigan, October 7, 1871, but lived most of his life in Greene County. He was a son of William and Melinda Simmons Fordyce. He was united in marriage April 14, 1895, with Lyda J. Fordyce, of Ned. To this union were born eight children as follows: Robert Francis, who died at the age of two years; Herbert A., at home; Victor L., Akron, Ohio; William Joseph and Edward, of Moundsville, W. Va.; Mrs. Norene Kimble, of Moundsville, W. Va.; Pvt. Ernest O. Fordyce, Camp Edwards, Mass.; and Ruth Anna, who died in 1930. There are eight grandchildren. One brother, Jacob Fordyce of Bluff, survives. A sister, Mrs. Dora Belle Sellers, died in 1930. When a young man, "Ward" as he was familiarly known to his friends and relatives became a school teacher, and remained in that profession until his retirement in 1934. He taught thirty-five terms of school in all, his first being taught at the Crouse school in Center Township. For a few years after retiring as a teacher he served as secretary of the Springhill Township board of education and at the time of his deathwas one of Springhill's two retired teachers. The burial will be sometime Friday afternoon at the Sand Hill cemetery. Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending the arrival of the soldier son.
