1955 GARFIELD FORDYCE

Garfield Fordyce, 74, former Jackson Township farmer, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 1955, in the Uniontown Hospital following an operation which he underwent there Thursday.

A son of Silas and Jane Orndoff Fordyce of Hargus Creek he was born July 2, 1881. He had lived in Fayette County the past 27 years and was a member of the New Salem Presbyterian Church. He was married June 25, 1904 to Alice Haines who preceded him in death April 18, 1952. The following sons and daughters survive: Mrs. Ruth Davis of Los Angeles, Calif., Eugene Fordyce of Willowick, O., Mrs. Pauline Barry of Cleveland, O., William Fordyce of Euclid, O., Fred Fordyce of Monaca, Claude Fordyce of Lambert, Ivan Fordyce at home, and Mrs. Mabel Hoge of Rogersville. On daughter, Gladys, is deceased as are two grandchildren, and nine brothers and sisters. He also leaves 26 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one brother, W. L. Fordyce of Waynesburg R. D. 5.

Friends will be received at his late home until noon Tuesday, when the body will be removed to the New Salem Presbyterian Church to lie in state there until 1:30 p.m. when funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Mr. Manson. Interment will be in Rosemont Cemetery at Rogersville.

Garfield Fordyce, 74, of McClellandtown, R.D. 1, a former Jackson Township farmer, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 1955, in the Uniontown Hospital, where he underwent an operation Thursday.

Mr. Fordyce was born July 2, 1881, on Hargus Creek, and was a son of Silas and Jane Orndoff Fordyce. June 15, 1904, he married Alice Haines, who died April 18, 1952. He resided in Greene County most of his life, except for the last 27 years, when he lived in Fayette County. He was a member of the New Salem Presbyterian Church. He was a staunch Republican.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Davis, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Pauline Barry, of Cleveland, O., and Mrs. Mabel Hoge, of Rogersville; five [sic] sons, Eugene, of Willowick, O.;William Fordyce, of Euclid, O.; Fred Fordyce, of McClellandtown, R.D.; 26 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and a brother, W. L. Fordyce, of Waynesburg, R.D. 5.

A daughter, Gladys, two grandchildren and nine brothers and sisters are deceased.

EDITORS NOTE: Although this obituary mentions five surviving sons, it only names three. The other two sons were Claude and Ivan Fordyce.
