Ica Rex Fordyce Obituary

Ica Rex Fordyce, 82, of 708 E. High Street, Waynesburg, died at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 1971, in the Greene County Memorial Hospital of an apparent coronary occlusion.

She was born Dec. 4, 1884 in Perry Township, near Mt. Morris, to the late Leasure and Victoria Cleavenger Lemley. Her first husband, Ernest Rex died April 16, 1926 and her second husband, Alvah Fordyce died Jan. 14, 1948.

For over 27 years, she lived in the Brownsville area but for the past several years she lived in Waynesburg where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two stepdaughters, Mrs. Charles (Jean) Gottschalk, of Prosperity and Mrs. Howard (Alberta) Butcher of Pittsburgh; a stepson, Rev. Kenneth C. Fordyce, of Bethel Park; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Clara Watson of Washington; two half-sisters, Mrs. Emma Headlee, of Waynesburg and Miss Ann Dulaney, of Arlington, Va., a half-brother, Charles Dulaney of Mt. Morris and also several nephews and nieces.

A half-sister, Beatrice VanDruff, is deceased.

For several years, she was a teacher of the Worthwhile Bible Class. She was a graduate of the California Normal School in 1911 and taught school for over 27 years before her retirement in 1953. She taught in the Brownsville area.

She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the WSCS of the First United Methodist Church and the Daughters of America.

Mrs. Ica Rex Fordyce, 82, of 708 East High Street, Waynesburg, died at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 1971, of an apparent coronary occlusion. She was dead on arrival at the Greene County Memorial Hospital.

She was born December 4, 1888, in Perry Township, near Mt. Morris, the daughter of Leasure and Victoria Cleavenger Lemley.

Her early life was spent in the Mt. Morris area and for over 27 years she lived at Brownsville. The past several years have been spent at Waynesburg.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waynesburg and of the WSCS of the church. She was a teacher of the Worthwhile Bible Class and was a member of the Daughters of America.

She graduated from California Normal School in 1911 and retired in 1953 after teaching in the Brownsville School District for 27 years. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Retired Tecahrs Association.

Her first husband, Ernest Rex, died April 16, 1926, and her second husband, Alva H. Fordyce, died January 14, 1948.

She is survived by two step-daughters, Mrs. Charles (Jean) Gottschalk, of Prosperity and Mrs. Howard (Alberta) Butcher, of Pittsburgh; one stepson, Rev. Kenneth C. Fordyce, of Bethel Park; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

One sister, Mrs. Clara Watson, of Washington; two half-sisters, Mrs. Emma Headlee, of Waynesburg and Ann Dulaney, of Arlington, Va.; and one half-brother, Charles Dulaney, of Mt. Morris. Also several nieces and nephews.

A half sister, Mrs. Beatrice Vandruff, is deceased.


FORDYCE - Friends of Mrs. Ica Rex Fordyce, of Waynesburg, who died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1971, will be received after 7 p.m. Saturday, in the Mariner and Milliken Funeral Home, Waynesburg, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, in charge of Rev. J. W. Lofgren and Rev. Kenneth C. Fordyce. Burial in Jefferson Cemetery.
