Miss Nannie L. Fordyce

Miss Nannie L. Fordyce, 87, of Washington, a native of Greene County, died late Monday night, March 20, 1967, in Mound Park Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla., following a 10-day illness.

A daughter of John H. and Sarah Murdock Fordyce, she was born September 27, 1879, at Garards Fort, and attended Californis Normal School.

She taught school for a brief time in a one-room school near Garards Fort, and later taught for many years in the Pittsburgh area.

In 1954, Miss Fordyce published a history of Rev. John Corbly and a Genealogy of the Corbly Descendants, compiled from material she assembled over a period of many years.

A Baptist by faith. she had belonged to the Corbly Memorial Baptist Chirch at Garards Fort as a young woman, and throughout her life retained an avid interest in the pioneer minister, from whom she was descended. For many years she was active in planning the annual Corbly reunion held at the church each summer.

Miss Fordyce is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Cocklin of Yakima, Wash., and Mrs. Edith Scott of Washington, and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Four brothers and three sisters are deceased.

For a number of years, Miss Fordyce had resided during the summer months at Washington and Waynesburg, and during the winters at St. Petersburg. Services and interment will be at St. Petersburg.
