Last Rites Held For Aged Farmer
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Willow Grove church for Spencer Simmons Fordyce, aged 81 years, lifelong resident of Center township, who died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 1931, in his home near the Willow Grove church. The services were held at 4 o'clock and were in charge of Rev. Larue Z. Brown, of Rogersville. Interment was in the Fordyce cemetery, near Bluff. Mr. Fordyce had been ill but a week, his death being due to ailments incident to his advanced years. A son of John A. and Sarah Simmons Fordyce, he was born in Center township and followed farming there all his life. At the age of 11 years he united with the Holbrook Christian church, but later transferred his membership to the Willow Grove church. He married Mary K. Kimble, who died several years ago. He leaves one son, Spencer B. Fordyce, of Holbrook, and a sister, Mrs. Silas Wood, of Holbrook. One grandchild also survives. Democrat Messenger, August 21, 1931 (Waynesburg, PA) |
