Wilbur C. Grooms WWII veteran retired from R. G. Johnson Co. Wilbur C. "Bud" Grooms, 78, of Vestaburg, died at 8:45 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2001, in Washington Hospital. He was born September 14, 1922, in Khedive, a son of Elbin F. "Lum" and Gwendola Eaton Grooms. Mr. Grooms was a retired superintendent for R. G. Johnson Co. During World War II, he served with the U. S. Army in Europe as a sergeant in the 11th Armored Division, 42nd Tank Battalion. Mr. Grooms was a member of Clarksville Christian Church. He was a member of Waynesburg Elks and Moose, American Legion Post 391 and was past post commandant of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491. Mr. Grooms was twice married. Wanda Spitznogle Grooms died in 1993. Surviving are his wife, Catherine Goosdich Grooms; a stepson, Frank Knight of Parma, Ohio; four stepgrandchildren, John, Robert, Jacob and Terry Knight; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Grooms of Belle Vernon; and two sisters, Lois Jones of Jefferson and Aldene G. Bruckner of Jefferson R. D. A sister, Phyllis Thomas, is deceased.
GROOMS - Friends of Wilbue C. "Bud" Grooms of Vestaburg, who died Friday, September 7, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Paul M. Lesako Funeral Home Inc., Carmichaels, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, September 10, with the Rev. Domenick Sgro officiating. Interment will be held in Muddy Creek Cemetery, Khedive.
