Wiliam S. Grooms
Retired miner William S. Grooms, 77, of Rices Landing R. D. 1, died unexpectedly in Uniontown Hospital Thursday, June 30, 1988, from a heart attack. He was born September 20, 1910, in Khedive, a son of Clinton C. and Jessie Sproat Grooms, and had resided most of his life in Jefferson Township. Before retiring, Mr. Grooms was a miner at the Crucible Mine. He later was employed by R. G. Johnson Shaft Construction Co. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Carmichaels and of UMW District 4. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Yoders Grooms, whom he married March 26, 1931. Also surviving are two sons, Kenneth R. Grooms of Waynesburg R. D. 5 and Thomas B. Grooms of Woodbridge, Va.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Mable Hartley of Carmichaels R.D. 1. Two sons, William Joseph and George C. Grooms, are deceased.
