Leslie W. Haines, 77, of 173 Willow Road, Waynesburg, died at noon Tuesday, January 7, 1992, in Greene County Memorial Hospital of an apparent heart attack.
He was born April 23, 1914, in Whiteley Township, a son of Noah L. and Ocie I. John Haines. Mr. Haines lived most of his life in Greene County. He was a member of Kirby United Methodist Church and served the church as an adult Sunday school teacher, member of the board of trustees and chairman of the administrative board. He also was president of the board of ACTS of Greene County and a member of the Waynesburg Sportsman's Club. Mr. Haines was a 1933 graduate of Mt. Morris High School. He graduated from Waynesburg College in 1940. For several years, he studied music under Zola Hennen of Waynesburg College. Mr. Haines worked for 40 years in the chemical industry. He was last employed by Union Carbide Co., Silicon Division, and retired in 1980 as a chemical operator for 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Edith Lemley Haines, whom he married June 25, 1938; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Barbara) Cowell of Marietta, Ohio; a son, James L. Haines of Waynesburg; a granddaughter, Lori Dickinson; a grandson, Michael Cowell; and two great-grandchildren. Deceased are a son who died in infancy and a granddaughter, Paula Powell.
