Alvah Headlee
Dr. Alvah John Washington Headlee, 87, of Pineview Drive, Morgantown, W. Va., died Monday, January 15, 1990, in Monongalia Hospital in Morgantown, W. Va. He was born April 16, 1902, in Brock, Greene County, a son of Oscar and Hannah Minor Headlee. A 1924 graduate of Waynesburg College, he received his master's and doctorate degrees from West Virginia University in 1930 and 1932, respectively. For the past six years, he was involved with genaelogical reserach and library work at Greene County Historical Society's museum. He was the author of many books and papers on genealogy. From 1935 to 1957, he was chief chemist for West Virginia Geological Society. He was also a chemist at Johns Hopkins physics laboratory in 1945. He was a geo-chemist consultant for several oil firms from 1957 to 1967. His memberships included the American Chemical Society, National Geo-Chemical Society, American Petroleum Institute, Appalachian Geological Society and the American Men of Science. His wife of 66 years, Mary Jones Headlee, survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Ruth Potter of Bethesda, Md., Nancy Lunderburg of Alexandria, Va., and Kathleen Butts of Pullman, Wash.; two sons, Linden of Fairmont, W. Va., and David of Morgantown, W. Va.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Newspaper obituary, date and source unknown (Greene County, PA) |
