Well Known Minister Victim of Monoxide Gas

Rev. David L. Headlee, Native of Greene County, Found Dead in His Garage.

Rev. David L. Headley, a well known Methodist Episcopal minister, of Homer City, near Indian, Pa., and a native of this county, was asphixiated, Wednesday morning, March 7, by carbon monoxide fumes while working at his automobile in his garage.

On account of the chilly morning air, Rev. Headley had closed the door of his garage and started to work on the machine about 8:45 o'clock. He had started the engine and presumably was testing it or the battery when overcome by the fumes. His body was found about 9:30 o'clock by his wife who saw smoke coming from the garage and knew her husband was working inside of the building. Two physicians were called who used every means to resusitate him, but to no avail.

Mr. Headley was a son of W. G. and Mary J. Headlee, deceased, and was born near Mt. Morris, in Perry township. He was aged 53 years. After attending the public schools he enrolled as a student in Waynesburg college abd was graduated from that institution in 1901.

For the past twenty-seven years Rev. Headlee had been actively engaged in the ministry. He had held charges at Ninevah, Scenery Hill, Wilson, Bellevernon, Midway, Venetia and South Fork. Previous to assuming the pastorate of the Homer City church two years ago, he was located at Bellevernon.

Mrs. Headlee, who was formerly Miss Ella Ruth Williams, of near Monongahela, survives with four children: Miss May Headlee, a teacher at Homer City; Miss Esther Headlee, a student at Indiana Normal School, and James and Thomas, both at home.

Five brothers and three sisters also survive: W. W. Headlee, of Waynesburg; Misses Resa and Ella Headlee, of Columbus, O.; J. N. Headlee, Toledo, O.; Benson Headlee, Pataskala, O.; Eli Headlee, Mt. Morris; O. A. Headlee, of Spraggs and Mrs. Walter Dulaney, of Mt. Morris.

Funeral services were held in the First Methodist Episcopal church at Homer City, Friday evening at 7:30 o'clock, with further services at Monongahela, Pa., Saturday at 1 p.m. Interment in th Monongahela cemetery.
