Violet E. Lemley
Miss Violet E. Lemley, 67, of Mt. Morris, R. D. 1 died at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 1967, in the Spear Convalescent Home, Markleysburg. She had been in failing health several months and seriously ill the past few days. Miss Lemley, a daughter of Endsley and Clara Cleavenger Lemley, was born November 8, 1899, in Perry Township, near Mt. Morris, and was a member of a pioneer Greene County family, being a descendant of Rev. John Corbly. She graduated from California Normal School and received her masters degree at West Virginia University. She taught elementary school for a number of years in Perry and Dunkard Townships, but during the later part of her life resided at Washington D.C., where she was employed by the federal government. Following her retirement in 1962 due to ill health, she returned to her home near Mt. Morris. Miss Lemley was a lifelong member of the Shannon Run Methodist Church and was active in church affairs for 51 years. Surviving are three sisters, Margaret, wife of Bon Merrill, of Muncy, Ind., Louisa, wife of Rev. Charles Morris, of Mt. Morris, and Lena, wife of Audrey Fetty, of Mt. Morris; three brothers, Attorney William C. Lemley, of Morgantown, W. Va., Edward Dewey Lemley, of Mt. Morris, R. D.1, and Dr. Dawson Enlow Lemley, of Jackson, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews.
LEMLEY - Friends of Miss Violet E. Lemley, of Mt. Morris R. D. 1, who died Tuesday, January 17, 1967, are being received in the Mariner-Milliken Funeral Home, Waynesburg until 11 a.m. Friday, when the body will be removed to the Shannon Run Methodist Church, Mt. Morris, and may be viewed from noon until 1:30 p.m., the hour of the service with Rev. John Duvall and Rev. Charles Elliott in charge. Interment in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Descendant Of Pioneer Family And Teacher Dies Violet E. Lemley, 67, of Mt. Morris, R. D. 1, died at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 1967 at the Spear Convalescent Home, Markleysburg, following an illness of several months. She was born November 8, 1899, in Perry Township near Mt. Morris, the daughter of the late Endsley and Clara Cleavenger Lemley. The early part of her life was spent in the Mt. Morris area. She attended public school in Perry Township and later graduated from California Normal School. She then went on to acquire her Master's Degree from West Virginia University. For several years she taught in elementary schools in Perry and Dunkard Townships. For the last several years she was employed by the Federal government in Washington, D. C. She retired in 1962 due to ill health. She was a lifelong member of the Shannon Methodist Church and a direct descendant of Rev. John Corbly, an early pioneer in Greene County. She is survived by three sisters, Margaret, wife of Bon Merrill of Muncy, Ind.; Louisa, wife of Rev. Charles Morris and Lena, wife of Audrey Fetty, both of Mt. Morris and three brothers, Attorney William C. Lemley of Morgantown, W. Va.; Dr. Dawson Enlow Lemley of Jackson, Tenn. and Edward Dewey Lemley of Mt. Morris, R. D. 1.
