Sarah Wood Marley, 88, of Millersburg, Ohio, formerly of Waynesburg, died Tuesday, February 22, 1983, in the Joel Pomerene Hospital, Millersburg.

She was born January 1, 1895, in Holbbrook, Center Township, a daughter of Silas and Catherine Fordyce Wood.

She attended rural schools in Willow Grove and Holbrook and was graduated from Edinboro State College in 1916, after which she began her teaching career in Greene County public schools.

Later she attended the University of Pittsburgh and received a B.S. degree in 1928 from Waynesburg College. She also taught in public and private schools in Idaho, California, Colorado, Beaver and Pittsburgh.

During both World Wars, she worked in industries, doing laboratory science work at General Electric in Erie and with the Navy Yard and Franklin Arsenal in Philadelphia.

On June 20, 1925, she married N. W. Marley, who died June 27, 1974.

Mrs. Marley was a member of the John Corbly Chapter of the D.A.R. of Waynesburg, the James Farrell Post 330 of the American Legion Auxiliary of Waynesburg and several social and literary clubs, including the C.L.S.C. reading circle.

She was a lifelong member of the Christian Church of Holbrook and attended the First Christian Church of Waynesburg.

Surviving are a sister, Clara Wood Phillips of Millersburg, Ohio; and two nephews, Clive Wood Phillips of Washington and John Ralph Phillips of Millersburg, with whom she made her home.

Deceased is one nephew, James Oliver Phillips.


Correction

In the obituary of Sarah Wood Marley of Millerburg, Ohio, formerly of Waynesburg, which was published Wednesday, it was incorrectly stated that she was survived by a sister, Clara Wood Phillips of Millersburg.

Mrs. Phillips died in February 1982.

Omitted from the obituary was the name of a surviving nephew, George Marley of Holbrook.


MARLEY - Friends of Sarah Wood Marley of Millersburg, Ohio, formerly of Waynesburg, who died Tuesday, February 22, 1983, will be received in the Behm Funeral Home Inc., 182 West High Street, Waynesburg, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, where services will be held Friday, February 25 at 1 p.m. The Rev. Kenneth Thomas will officiate with burial in the Fordyce Family Cemetery.
