U.S. Army veteran during Korean War William J. "Billy Joe" Mitchell, 71, of 545 Bridge Street, Waynesburg, died at 5 p.m. Monday, May 25, 1998, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg. He was born May 24, 1927, in Center Township, Greene County, a son of Scott Mitchell and Mildred Orndoff Mitchell Kerr. Mr. Mitchell lived in Greene County during his early life then moved to Pittsburgh where he lived for 33 years. He worked as a truck driver for Equitable Gas Co., Division C, retiring in 1986. Following his retirement he moved back to Greene County. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War and was Presbyterian. On June 2, 1951, he married Jean Wilson Mitchell, who survives. Also surviving are five sisters, Joan Tokar of Placentia, Calif., Louella Underwood of Newton Falls, Ohio, Kathy Bamberger of Bridgeville, Renee Jones of Spraggs R.D.1 and Mary P. "Patty" Diamonte of Waynesburg; two brothers, Karl E. Kerr of Montrose, Colo., and Thomas S. Kerr of Kane; and several nieces and nephews.
MITCHELL - Friends of William J. "Billy Joe" Mitchell of Waynesburg, who died Monday, May 25, 1998, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, in the Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, Inc., 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, with the Rev.
