Charles S. Morris

Ordained Assemblies of God minister

The Rev. Charles S. Morris, 88, of Mt. Morris R.D.1, died at 10:45 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2000, at his home, following a 10-year illness.

He was born January 1, 1912, in Fordyce, a son of Jay and Ora Stephens Morris.

Mr. Morris had lived in Mt. Morris the past 52 years, where he was a member of Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle Assemblies of God Church.

He was an ordained Assemblies of God minister and pastored Poland Mines Assemblies of God Church from 1949 to 1963. He then served as an evangelist from 1963 to 1969 and then pastored Romney Assemblies of God Church in West Virginia from 1969 to 1975, when he retired from full-time ministry. He served as deacon at Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle Assembly of God Church and served as a fill-in minister when needed as long as his health permitted. He was a carpenter.

On August 3, 1929, he married Louisa Evelyn Lemley, who died March 12, 1997.

Surviving are a daughter, Norma L. Eddy of Core, W.Va.; four sons, William Richard Morris and Harry O. Morris, both of Manassas, Va., Charles Wesley Morris of Mt. Morris and David W. Morris of Morgantown, W.Va.; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

His close friend, Alice Raber of Mt. Morris, helped take care of Mr. Morris during his decline of health.

Deceased are two brothers, Eldred and Donald Morris.


MORRIS - Friends of the Rev. Charles S. Morris of Mt. Morris R.D.1, who died Monday, January 17, 2000, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Ellsworth and Rt. 19, Mt. Morris. Mr. Morris will lie in state at Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle Assemblies of God Church from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of services, Friday, January 21, with the Revs. Fred Tomlinson and Chester Tennant officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mt. Morris. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle Assemblies of God Church, Mt. Morris, PA 15349.
