Mrs. Della F. Patterson
Mrs. Della F. Patterson, 76, widow of Jacob J. Patterson and a former Greene County resident, died yesterday (Thursday) morning, Feb. 17, 1944, at 5:15 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wesley Zimmerman, Washington, R. D. 6. Mrs. Patterson had been in poor health for the last year and had been critically ill four months. A native of Whiteley Township, she was born July 17, 1867, a daughter of Joseph and Nancy Roberts Fordyce. SHe had spent practically all her life in Greene County, residing for several years in Waynesburg, but had lately made her home with her daughter in Washington County. She was married June 19, 1890, to Jacob J. Patterson, who died March 12, 1930. She was a lifelong member of the Claughton Chapel Methodist Church and was a devoted church worker. Surviving are two sons and one daughter: J. F. Patterson, of Waynesburg; Wayne Patterson, of Jefferson, and Mrs. Wesley Zimmerman, of Washington R. D. 6. There are two grandchildren, Harold Patterson, in the Army Air Forces at Corpus Christi, Texas, and Louise Ellen Zimmerman. An uncle, J. M. Roberts, of Waynesburg, is the only other surviving member of her family. A brother, George Fordyce, and a sister, Mrs. Olive Hatfield, are deceased. D. 6. She had been ill the last four months. Mrs. Patterson was born July 17, 1867, in Whiteley Township, Greene County. She was a daughter of Joseph and Nancy Roberts Fordyce, and was the last of their three children. On June 19, 1890, she was married to Jacob J. Patterson, who died March 12, 1930. They were the parents of three children, J. F. Patterson, Waynesburg; Wayne Patterson, Jefferson, and Mrs. Wesley Zimmerman, Washington, R. D. 6, with whom she resided at the time of her death. There are two grandchildren, Harold Patterson, in the Army and stationed in Texas, and Louise Ellen Zimmerman, at home. An uncle, J. M. Roberts, of Waynesburg, also survives. A brother, George Fordyce, and a sister, Mrs. Olive Hatfield, are deceased. She was a lifelong member of the Claughton Chapel Methodist Church, and was always prominent in the church work until her health began to fail.
