J. F. Patterson, 89, of 136 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, died at 2 p.m. Saturday,
November 29, 1980, in Washington Hospital Extended Care Facility. He had been seriously
ill for several months.
He was born March 23, 1891, in Whiteley Township, a son of Jacob and Della Fordyce Patterson. He had spent his early life in Whiteley Township and for several years had worked as a teacher in the public school in Greene Township. For 15 years he owned and operated the general store at Fordyce and during that time he served as the community's postmaster. Mr. Fordyce also owned and operated the J. F. Patterson Farm Supply of Waynesburg and for 50 years was an authorized dealer for International Harvester. He retired in 1972. He was a member of the Washington Street United Methodist Church, the Men's Bible Class of the Church and served the church for several years as a member of the board of trustees. He was also a member of the Fort Jackson Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. On October 17, 1914 he married Oscie Husk Patterson, who survives along with a son, Harold E. Patterson of Wayland, Mass.; three grandsons, James H. Patterson, Gregory J. Patterson and Gary D. Patterson; a great-grandson, James Patterson; two great-granddaughters, Katie Ellen Patterson and Megan Patterson; a sister, Mrs. Wesley (Olive) Zimmerman of Wsshington; and a niece, Mrs. Louise Glaum of Washington.
