Walter L. Phillips
Worked at Jessop Steel Walter L. Phillips, 89, of Washington, formerly of Waynesburg, died Monday, February 15, 1999, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington. He was born October 17, 1909, in Waynesburg, a son of Ross and Mary Alice Dulaney Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a member of First Lutheran Church of Washington. He graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1927 and from Duff Iron City Business College in 1929. Prior to his retirement in 1971, he worked in the production department of Jessop Steel Corp. for 36 years. On February 6, 1933, in Uniontown, he married Doris Umbel, who died January 4, 1990. Surviving are a son, Robert C. Phillips and a daughter, Kathryn Cochran, both of Washington; a sister, Mae Murdoch of Ohio; four grandchildren, Kimberly Jasek, Laura Riley, Tracy Fowler and Craig L. Phillips; and two great-grandchildren. Deceased are a brother, Charles Phillips; and a sister, Florence, who died in infancy. Washington Observer-Reporter, February 16, 1999 (Greene County, PA) |
