LYDA M. SOUTH

Lyda M. South, 79, of 271 East Greene Street, Waynesburg, died at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, April 21, 1968, in Greene County Memorial Hospital. She had been ill since April 6 when she fell and fractured her hip.

She was born October 29, 1888, in Whiteley Township, near Fordyce, a daughter of John and Emily Fordyce Morris.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orma J. South, who died January 17, 1964.

Mrs. South spent her early life in the Fordyce community. She lived at Waynesburg for several years before moving to Greensboro. She returned to Waynesburg where she had resided since 1959.

She was a graduate of Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio, having received a bachelors' degree in music. For a number of years she taught piano lessons in the Waynesburg area. She was a member of the Washington Street Methodist Church and the WSCS of the church.

Surviving are a step-daughter, Mrs. James (Mary Jane) Romey, of Richmond, Ind.; three grandchildren, and one niece, Mrs. John (Madolyn) Marshall, of Belmont, Mass.

One brother, Fordyce H. Morris, is deceased.

Lyda M. South, 79, of 271 East Greene Street, Waynesburg, died at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, April 21, 1968, at Greene County Memorial Hospital. She had not been in the best of health and was seriously ill since fracturing her hip in a fall on April 6.

She was born October 29, 1888 in Whiteley Township, near Fordyce, a daughter of the late John and Emily Fordyce Morris. Her husband Orme J. South, died January 17, 1964. The early part of her life was spent in the Fordyce community, with several years in Waynesburg. She late lived in Greensboro, returning to Waynesburg in 1959, where she had resided ever since.

She was a member of the Washington Street Methodist Church, the WSCS of the church, a graduate of Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio, where she attained a bachelor of arts degree in music. She taught piano in Greene County for many years.

Surviving are one stepdaughter, Mrs. James (Mary Jane) Romey, of Richmond, Indiana; three grandchildren, and one niece, Mrs. John (Madolyn) Marshall, of Belmont, Mass.

One brother, Fordyce H. Morris, is deceased.
