Donald Spragg Stewart

Donald Spragg Stewart, 94, of Waynesburg, died Thursday, August 30, 1984, in Greene County Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 31, 1890, in Wayne Township, a son of the late Ezra DeGarmo Stewart and Lana Waychoff Stewart. His wife, Beulah Mae Leggett Stewart, died April 19, 1978.

Mr. Stewart lived all his life at Waynesburg where he owned and operated a machine shop from 1912 through 1972 specializing in automotive machine work, special parts and model work. The shop was first located on East Lincoln Street and later was moved to the corner of Liberty and Greene Street where he also resided for many years. For the past year he had made his home with Keith and Sharon Conley, of Waynesburg.

He attended Waynesburg College for over three years and was a graduate of the New York School of Automotive Engineers.

Mr. Stewart was a member of the Washington Street United Methodist Church, Waynesburg, and for many years was a Sunday School teacher. He was also active as a church lay speaker in the tri-state area.

He was a veteran of World War I serving with the U.S, Army in France.

Following the death of his brother, Paul R. "Prexy" Stewart, longtime President of Waynesburg College, he wrote a year-long series of newspaper articles on his brother.

Mr. Stewart was the last of his immediate family.

Surviving are two daughters, Helen Mae Martof, of Raleigh, N.C., and Mary M. Kennel, of Newark, Del.; one brother [should be son], John L. Stewart, of Tuscon, Az.; 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Deceased in addition to his brother Dr. Paul R. Stewart is another brother, Ralph Blair Stewart, and an infant sister, Nellie Stewart.
