Mrs. Vada Rush Throckmorton, 82, of 825 Bonar Avenue, Waynesburg, died following a long illness at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 14, 1977, in the Morgantown (W. Va.) Nursing Center.
A daughter of Eli and Ruth Stevens WHitlatch, she was born December 30, 1894 in Wayne Township, near Brock, and resided during early life in the Brock and Spraggs area. She had made her home here at Waynesburg since 1940. She was a member of the Washington Street United Methodist Church, where she was a charter member of the United Methodist Women, a member of the Women's Bible Class, and a former Cradle Roll superintendent. She was a member of the W.C.T.U. for 68 years, and for 30 years had served as Greene County Director of Armed Services for the W.C.T.U. Her second husband, James J. Throckmorton, died November 9, 1976. Surviving are two daughters and a son by a first marriage, Mrs. Kathryn Dodge of Spraggs, Mrs. Clarence (Anice) Davis of Rutan and Floyd Rush Jr. of Spraggs; A stepdaughter, Mrs. Robert (Jean) Hawkins of Yorktown, Va.; a stepson, J. Daryl Throckmorton of Waynesburg; 20 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren, and a brother, Heyward Whitlatch of Pennsboro, W. Va.
