Mrs. Catherine Fordyce Wood
Mrs. Catherine Fordyce Wood, 77, died at her home in Holbrook, Monday evening, June 8, 1942. She was a daughter of John A. and Sarah (Simmons) Fordyce, both pioneer families of that section, and was the youngest and last child in a family of seven. Mrs. Wood was born in Center Township, near Willow Grove Church, June 13, 1864. She spent the last 35 years of her life at her present home. On May 25, 1892, she was united in marriage to Silas Wood by Dr. A. B. Miller, then President of Waynesburg College, where she had been a student. Mrs. Wood taught school for a number of years in Center Township and in Blacksville, W. Va. Her husband survives with two daughters: Mrs. Clive Phillips, of Brownsville; Mrs. N. W. Marley, of Holbrook: three grandsons, Wood, James and Ralph Phillips, of Brownsville; and a nephew, S. B. Fordyce, of Holbrook. Funeral Services will be held at the Wood home in Holbrook at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 1942, with Rev. A. Homer Jordan, pastor of the Waynesburg Christian Church, officiating, assisted by Rev. F. H. Gerrett, of Rogersville. Interment will be made in Fordyce Cemetery. Friends will be received at the residence at any time. Ralph H. Scott, Rogersville, is the funeral director in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Wood's last request was that no flowers other than garden flowers be sent.
